I WON’T GIVE UP … I WON’T GIVE IN

The days and years keep mounting. I’m still in prison for a non-violent cannabis crime.
Eight thousand nine hundred and three days I’ve walked through the valley of the shadow of death. Eight thousand nine hundred and three days of enduring days-in-and-days-out in a cage filled with mental oppression, frustrations, loneliness, and heartaches.
Yet I won’t give up, I won’t give in.
Not because I am relentless. But because there’s an inner conviction constantly telling me, “Your life has purpose, your life has meaning”; because there’s still a flicker of hope that one day I’ll be set free; because there’s still strength to go against the grain, up the river, through the trenches, through failure upon failure until I obtain my release from prison.
The naysayers and the doubters see me as unredeemable. The haters … well … they’ll just keep on hating.
Yet I won’t give up, I won’t give in.
I refuse to bow down to a system which labels me as a number. I am a life coach and mentor. My college degrees, the classes I teach, the diet and exercise regiment I employ on a consistent basis all portray the master plan and the dream I am chasing. No matter how long, no matter how hard, I’ll keep the faith. No matter how long, no matter how hard, I’ll keep believing that my trials, denials, and setbacks, all have redemptive value.
As in the words of Alexandra Elle, “I am thankful for my struggle because, without it, I wouldn’t have stumbled across my strength.”
So if I won’t give up and give in to the difficulties of life, neither should YOU. Never give up – never give in.
