Randy Lanier | Freedom Grow Forever

Randy Lanier

Randy Lanier is on the Executive Committee of Freedom Grow, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting cannabis prisoners and their families. A former International Sports Car Champion and 1986 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year, Randy’s life took a dramatic turn when he was sentenced to life without parole in 1988 for a nonviolent cannabis offense. After serving 27 years in federal prison, he was released in 2014 and has since dedicated his life to advocating for justice, clemency, and cannabis reform.

Randy’s personal experience with the hardships of incarceration fuels his passion for helping others still affected by prohibition. He leads the organization’s efforts to provide outreach through the Wish Program, which offers commissary funds, books, magazines, and family support to cannabis prisoners. As CEO, Randy plays a key role in raising the funds necessary to keep Freedom Grow’s programs running, ensuring the organization can continue to bring light to dark cells and support the families of those incarcerated. His leadership, fundraising efforts, and dedication to the cause are the driving forces behind Freedom Grow’s mission.

In addition to his work with Freedom Grow, Randy shares his incredible journey as the star of the Netflix documentary Need for Weed and the author of the best-selling memoir Survivor of the Fastest. His story has been featured in Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, Maxim, Road & Track, and Automobile Magazine. Randy’s commitment to justice and his belief in the power of uplifting others continue to inspire and drive the mission of Freedom Grow.
