Derrick White

Derrick White is from Detroit Michigan and is serving an 11 year sentence federal sentence for cannabis charges.  He is non-violent, and scheduled to be released on 3-9-25.

While in prison, Derrick has completed numerous programs and earned his GED while incarcerated.  He is  enrolled with Blackstone University, he is completing coursework for Paralegal Assistant.

He has a loving family including 2 brothers and 2 sisters who are anxiously awaiting his return home. His sister Ta Shun White wants you to know:

Derrick was very close to our mom.  When she became incapable of caring for herself, that broke his heart.  He wanted so badly to be home with her.  As her health declined, he did not give up on trying to get home to care for her.  He often wished that his decisions did not land him in the situation that ultimately was keeping him from helping the person he loved most, his mother.  Her death devastated him.  He applied for furlough in hopes of being granted so that he could get closure but was never approved or denied by the BOP.

Family and friends mean everything to Derrick.  He is known for his huge heart.  Before being arrested for the crime he is currently serving time for, he was very active within the community.  He gave food and clothing to the homeless, neighbors and family friends on a regular basis.  He served as a volunteer for the Boys and Girls  Clubs, and maintained those commitments until he was arrested.  Many people find charities to donate to during the holidays; not Derrick, he is always giving of himself and his personal possessions.  He always contributed to the community summer lunch programs. He felt that this was important especially because kids were out of school and more than likely missing out on meals that they would normally get during school hours.

Derrick loves children and believes that they are the catalyst to our future.  He would consistently donate books to local area schools and enjoyed seeing their book clubs grow and develop.  He always encouraged his daughter, nieces and nephews to do their very best in school and to push themselves to reach their highest potential.  The neighborhood looked forward to what became the “annual Cedar Point trip”,  sponsored by Derrick.  Derrick and my mom worked together and planned this trip every year.  This was a time for families and friends to come together and enjoy a day at the park.  This was a big deal in the neighborhood Derrick grew up in because most families could not afford to take their children to Cedar Point.  Derrick did this with such a humble heart.  He never looks for accolades and he always makes people feel appreciated and loved.
