In 2008 I was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for a nonviolent cannabis offense. I’ve served 14 years of that sentence in some of America’s worst prisons and jails. I write to tell you something very important:  Freedom Grow Forever has been there for me and my family since the very beginning. I still remember the first letter I received from them. I sat on my bunk, with the shadows of the bars cast across my cell, and read their inspiring words. I knew from that point forward I had friends and supporters out there who weren’t going to let me be forgotten. I knew I had an ally in this war that I could count on. The great work they do includes letters like the one I received, letters to the President, raising commissary funds, holiday programs for our children, and outspoken year-around advocacy. They have never let me down. 
I no longer consider Freedom Grow Forever my friends and supporters, they are my family. The tireless work they continue to do for cannabis prisoners, our families, and social justice is unrivaled, but the most amazing thing is that they are dedicated people who care for this plant and the communities that have been impacted by prohibition. Their efforts are making our world a better place. 
During a long prison sentence the days can get dark yet they would have been much darker if I didn’t have the light given from my family at Freedom Grow Forever.

Thank you for all your support when I was in prison. All the letters and newsletters when you all were marching for my release, that’s what kept me from flinging myself under the wheels of the commissary truck in despair. I swear at mail call, the guard always sounded like a dog barking, standing there hollering, “Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff! Huff!” as he leafed through the pile of envelopes. I bet there are a lot of us POW420s that are alive today because of all you do.

I got a couple letters of support from people that read my profile.  It is really cool to know people care what is going on.  It is important to raise awareness.  If I knew half of what I know now I wouldnt have gotten into this mess in the first place and would have advocated for the people who are in this situation.  I will stay involved when I get out, I think what Freedom Grow and LPP do is really important.

As a former marijuana prisoner that served 25 years of life sentence and received clemency from president Trump, I can attest to the commitment that FREEDOM GROW FOREVER has done to ease the mental torture of life in prison.  Loneliness and hunger are your best of friends.  So receiving a news letter during mail call after the 4 pm count keeps me and other constituients alive.  Prison food and work, contrary to what one saw and heard in the news, or official prison site.  Servings are substandard and hard to swallow, 12 cents an hour was my wage.  Not enough to buy the basic needs.  The worst of times are children’s birthdays, holidays come close.  Powerless to make a birthday or holiday wish come true.  For all the news letters, commissary money and hard drive for me freedom.  Forever grateful FREEDOM GROW FOREVER !
